About The Position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for providing strong and collaborative leadership, guiding the management of current and future technology systems and services across the institution, and fostering innovation. The CIO oversees the continuous evolution of an IT environment consisting of both a central IT organization and a substantial outsourced IT staffing presence that collaboratively support the needs of the college and are accountable for effectively and efficiently serving a broad range of college stakeholders. The CIO also provides leadership for comprehensive IT services, including ultimate responsibility for staff and unit operations in the Office of Technology Services (OTS). The CIO reports to the Senior Associate Vice President Administrative and Business Services through providing leadership for all technology-related items to the Vice President Finance and Administration and the Executive Leadership team. The CIO is involved in institution-wide strategic planning; provides fiscal leadership regarding information technology and cybersecurity initiatives and activities; shepherds the approval and enforcement of campus policies pertaining to information technology; and coordinates and integrates institutional technology matters. The CIO also serves as the college’s spokesperson on information technology matters and CSN’s technology liaison for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), local and state government, and key regional constituencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Management Information Sciences, or relevant technology fields from a college or university.
  • 10 years of progressive experience managing large, complex organizations in a public sector environment or in private industry.
  • 7 years in a senior leadership role with supervisory responsibility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and decide quickly, while communicating issues and solutions clearly and concisely.
  • Knowledge of technology principles; systems/applications implementation and management.
  • Proven leadership of strategic business and functional units in a multi campus environment.
  • Advanced management skills related to information technology, solution management oversight, and proven experience in technology principles.
  • Advanced experience managing enterprise units/organizations in a large, complex, and dynamic higher education or private industry setting.
  • Experience at an Executive Director level or above at a higher education institution or public agency.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Relevant certification in IT management, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Technology Manager (CITM).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, fluid, and collegial culture.
  • Experience adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Experience in managing technology ecosystems and maintaining complex systems/platforms.
