This responsibility requires that we be service-oriented relative to the financial needs of all departments while still assuring that all transactions adhere to Kinexus Group policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and rules established through various federal, state, and local funding sources. We lead by example by holding true to a high standard of excellence that drives Finance to provide outstanding levels of support and service. The Department strives to be exemplary in all activities and to continuously exceed expectations by being adaptive and responsive. General daily operations of the finance department, performing a wide variety of activities including but not limited to financial reporting, yearly- quarterly- monthly financial statements/closes, budgeting, board(s) support, and external monitoring, audits, and government filings. Manage processes, controls, and support for other accounting activities including accounts payable and disbursements, accounts receivable/cash management and receipts, payroll and related tax filings, invoicing, and reporting to various funds and grantors. The CFO is a member of the Corporate Management and Leadership teams and works closely with the organizational staff. S/he must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the areas of accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, general business practices, and project management
  • Experience with budget planning and management
  • Experience with financial reporting, government contracts and the annual audit process
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information and present compelling messages to the leadership team
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies controlling budgetary and fiscal record keeping
  • Ability to interpret and provide accurate financial data to management to enable them to make business decisions on a timely basis
  • A strong business acumen with attention to detail
  • Spreadsheet proficiency
  • Must be a self-starter; work with a minimum of supervision
  • Must have good interpersonal skills, the ability to organize, prioritize and maintain confidentiality, build relationships and the ability to work in team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Seven or more years of experience in accounting
  • CPA Certification
  • Nonprofit, workforce, or economic development experience
  • Grants management or fund-based accounting expertise
  • Prior knowledge of economic and workforce and community development

Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise-wide financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Provide strategic financial insights to executive leadership, the Investment Committee, and subsidiary Boards
  • Serve as a key leader in corporate financial governance, including financial systems structure, accounting principles, and methodologies
  • Oversee all accounting and finance functions, including accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, cash receipts, and the month/quarter/year-end close process
  • Ensure timely, accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Review balance sheet accounts regularly, identifying and resolving inconsistencies
  • Manage and optimize enterprise cash flow, forecasting, and short-term liquidity in collaboration with the CEO
  • Administer and optimize ERP systems, including user roles and financial functionality
  • Establish and maintain uniform financial reporting systems, including standardized statements of activities across subsidiaries
  • Ensure strong internal controls, administrative processes, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Interpret and communicate financial policies, regulations, and funding requirements to internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain compliance with OMB circulars and workforce system funding requirements
  • Serve as primary point of contact for auditors; oversee successful completion of Single Audit, Form 990, 401k and consolidated financial statements
  • Support subsidiary Executive Directors and their Boards with accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis
  • Assist in ensuring proper cost allocation and program/grant reporting across entities
  • Collaborate on new and existing initiatives, providing financial analysis, modeling, and due diligence
  • Engage with external investors and funding partners, including reconciliation of statements and participation in performance reviews
  • Lead, develop, and manage the finance team, including hiring, performance management, training, and team effectiveness
  • Establish clear work allocation, accountability, and professional development pathways
  • Ensure integration of finance within the broader organization to streamline services, reduce duplication, and maximize resources
  • Maintain and oversee separation of duties and internal accountability structures
