About The Position

The Chief Financial & Administrative Officer (CFAO) serves as a strategic executive leader responsible for the financial health, administrative infrastructure, enterprise systems, and organizational support functions of Habitat for Humanity of Omaha. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CFAO provides strategic leadership across Finance and Accounting, as well as operational leadership and oversight of Human Resources, Information Technology, and Learning & Development. This role blends traditional CFO responsibilities with broader Chief Administrative Officer oversight and requires a collaborative, systems-oriented leader who can effectively balance strategic planning, operational execution, governance support, and organizational leadership, while navigating complexity, ambiguity, and evolving organizational priorities. The ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to lead effectively in a dynamic environment. The CFAO serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Endowment Committee, and executive leadership team, while building and maintaining strong relationships with auditors, lenders, legal counsel, and other strategic external partners. We are hiring for this role due to the planned retirement of a team member. The successful candidate will benefit from a structured transition period alongside the current CFO. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn established processes while helping shape future improvements.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in finance, with additional experience in operations, administration, or related executive leadership roles.
  • Experience overseeing multiple organizational functions and teams.
  • Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, financial strategy, and organizational operations.
  • Experience supporting executive leadership teams and Boards of Directors.
  • Demonstrated success leading or sponsoring systems implementations or improvements, and cross-functional initiatives in partnership with IT leadership and external technology partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • Non-profit and/or CDFI experience preferred.
  • Experience with affordable housing, lending, or mission-based finance strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite or enterprise ERP systems preferred.
  • Experience overseeing HR, IT, Learning & Development, or administrative functions preferred.
  • CPA, MBA, or related advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic financial leadership to support Habitat Omaha’s mission, long-term sustainability, and organizational growth.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and cash flow management processes.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and analysis.
  • Ensure strong internal controls, audit readiness, compliance, and financial transparency.
  • Oversee annual audits, IRS filings, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Provide strategic recommendations related to financial sustainability, operational scalability, and organizational risk.
  • Ensure proper stewardship and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Support Board and committee financial education and decision-making.
  • Translate financial insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Lead organizational capital strategy and financing initiatives supporting homeownership and lending activities.
  • Support and strengthen mortgage capital partnerships and lending relationships.
  • Provide financial oversight and strategic guidance for CDFI-related compliance, reporting, and capital planning, in partnership with the team managing day-to-day lending operations.
  • Evaluate and support financing opportunities, including complex lending and subsidy structures.
  • Partner with leadership on long-term lending sustainability and deployment strategies.
  • Support underwriting exception review and related lending processes.
  • Provide executive leadership and oversight across Finance and Accounting, and operational oversight and direction for HR, IT, and Learning & Development.
  • Support organizational structure alignment, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Partner with leadership to support employee engagement, communication, and organizational culture.
  • Oversee compensation planning, staffing support, and organizational policy administration.
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and professional development across teams.
  • Partner with IT leadership and external technology providers to develop and execute the organization's technology, financial systems, and data strategy, ensuring investments support effective reporting, analytics, decision-making, operational efficiency, and scalability.
  • Oversee technology partnerships, vendor management, and enterprise systems to support organizational effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Advance organizational data governance, reporting capabilities, automation, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide executive oversight of cybersecurity, business continuity, and technology-related risk management.
  • Lead efforts to identify and implement operational efficiencies that strengthen scalability, cross-functional collaboration, and organizational performance.
  • Oversee assigned administrative functions, facilities, leases, and other operational responsibilities.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO and a key member of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Support Board governance, committee leadership, and organizational strategic planning efforts.
  • Prepare and present Board materials, resolutions, policies, financial reports, and strategic recommendations, while supporting informed discussion and decision-making by the Board and its committees.
  • Support enterprise risk management, insurance oversight, and legal coordination.
  • Maintain strong relationships with auditors, legal counsel, lenders, consultants, and other strategic partners.
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning and leadership continuity efforts.
