About The Position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations at the Tarrytown House Estate. This includes managing both day-to-day tasks and larger capital improvement projects to ensure the hotel maintains its appeal. The role involves ensuring the availability and proper use of tools and equipment, safe handling of chemicals, and efficient execution of all maintenance work.

Requirements

At least 3 years of management or supervisory experience in a hotel.
Experience with HVAC, electrical, carpentry, dry walling, painting, plumbing, roofing, and landscaping.
Ability to perform in a high-paced environment with multiple tasks and deadlines.
Ability to effectively respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

Schedule, direct, and follow up on maintenance projects, including guestrooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
Manage capital plans and hotel property rehabilitation.
Ensure the availability, organization, and proper use of tools and equipment.
Oversee the proper use and storage of chemicals and hazardous materials.
Ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in mechanical or electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing) and other hotel equipment.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
Communicate with hotel department heads regarding maintenance needs and respond to internal requests.
Hire, train, evaluate, and lead all maintenance staff.
