About The Position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations at the Tarrytown House Estate. This includes managing both routine maintenance tasks for guestrooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas, as well as planning and executing larger capital projects to maintain the hotel's appeal. The role ensures the availability and proper organization of tools and equipment, safe handling and storage of chemicals and hazardous materials, and that all work is performed safely and efficiently.

Requirements

At least 3 years of management or supervisory experience in a hotel.
Experience with HVAC, electrical, carpentry, dry walling, painting, plumbing, roofing, and landscaping.
Ability to perform in a high-paced environment with multiple tasks and deadlines.
Ability to effectively respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

Schedule, direct, and follow up on maintenance projects to ensure completion.
Ensure the availability and organization of tools and equipment.
Manage the proper use and storage of chemicals and hazardous materials.
Ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in mechanical or electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing) and other equipment throughout the hotel.
Perform preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis.
Lead, manage, and communicate information about capital projects and property rehabilitation.
Communicate with hotel department heads to identify maintenance needs and respond to internal requests.
Hire, train, evaluate, and lead all maintenance staff.
