We are seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Controls engineer, with specialized expertise in Mineral Processing and Heavy Industrial plant operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for engineering and design oversight for instrumentation and controls systems and equipment critical to the safe and efficient operation of processing facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
  • Engineering License strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Instrumentation and Controls engineering in Industrial or Energy Facilities mineral processing or similar heavy industrial field.
  • Strong knowledge of industry-specific codes and standards (e.g., NEC, API, NFPA).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Autodesk Plant 3D preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution.
  • Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution.
  • Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
  • Position may include direct supervisory responsibility of staff to include hiring decisions, direction and delegation of work assignments, performance and evaluation, training and development, and employee relations.
  • Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, including site and project safety standards.
  • Responsible for the development of instrumentation engineering/design deliverables, including piping & instrumentation diagrams – PIDs (in collaboration with process and mechanical engineering), instrument index, instrument data sheets, instrument installation details, instrument location plans, wiring and loop diagrams, and panel drawings.
  • Lead the production of controls design deliverables, including I/O list, process control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, and manage third party control system suppliers to comply with the control system design requirements, including participating in factory acceptance tests (FAT).
  • Design and implement control systems for pumps, compressors, valves, and other equipment to optimize the operation of facilities.
  • Develop I&C material requisitions, review bids, make technical recommendations, review of I&C packages, and review of vendor documentation.
  • Responsible for preliminary sizing calculations for instruments such as orifice plates, controls valves, and thermowells.
  • Ensure all control systems and components meet industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform field visits and inspections as required.
  • Manage projects, including preparing cost estimates, proposals, budgets, resource allocation, and invoicing.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with project teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure alignment on deliverables, progress, and deadlines.
  • Conducts technical collaboration by reviewing deliverables with peers and supervisors as questions arise and ensuring quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) procedures are performed on deliverables generated.
  • Able to work independently and seek out guidance when required and without prompting.
  • Collaborate with the project team(s) and other departments to drive deliverables to completion.
  • Proactively address issues and ensure discipline-specific work is completed in alignment with the project schedule, budget, and scope of work.
  • Perform QA/QC on all department deliverables, including peer reviews, inter-departmental checks, and providing feedback via redlines and mentoring.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers by providing guidance, sharing industry knowledge, and offering feedback on technical deliverables.
  • Participates in department meetings and training, as required.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
