About The Position

The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) provides strategic leadership and oversight for all clinical services across the organization, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centered, and evidence-based care. The CCO owns and maintains clinical standards, treatment quality, and best practices, establishing a consistent framework for service delivery that supports positive outcomes for individuals served. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements. The CCO oversees the organization's clinical supervision model, risk management practices, care coordination processes, and clinical workforce development. The position provides leadership in clinical training and professional development across programs, ensuring staff possess the knowledge and competencies necessary to deliver effective services. Working collaboratively with Chief Medical Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and other operational and program leaders, the CCO promotes integrated care, strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration, and fosters a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Licensed senior clinician with 8+ years of clinical leadership experience required.
  • Experience with youth and family systems, higher levels of care, trauma-informed care, and complex clinical risk strongly preferred.
  • Requires a current, valid Connecticut clinical license (LMFT, LPC, or LCSW) or a doctoral degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Clinical Standards Manual establishing organization-wide expectations for assessment, treatment planning, care coordination, discharge planning, crisis response, documentation, and clinical supervision.
  • Design and launch a standardized Clinical Supervision Model that defines supervision requirements, competencies, accountability measures, and support structures for clinical staff and leaders across all programs.
  • Establish a formal Clinical Risk Review Process in partnership with Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Operating Officer, and program leadership to identify, monitor, and mitigate clinical risks while promoting continuous quality improvement.
  • Develop and implement Care Coordination Standards that define roles, communication expectations, transition planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure consistent, integrated, and person-centered care across the organization.
  • Establishes clinical standards for assessment, treatment planning, discharge planning, crisis response, and clinical supervision across programs.
  • Provides functional oversight and guidance to program clinical leaders to support consistent, high-quality clinical practice.
  • Leads clinical quality and risk practices in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer, Compliance, and program leadership.
  • Ensures fidelity to treatment models and oversees clinical training to strengthen staff competency and service quality.
  • Leads and champions the organization-wide use of trauma-informed care and de-escalation tools, promoting staff knowledge, consistency, and proactive strategies to prevent crises and reduce the need for physical restraint.
  • Regularly review and renew all necessary certifications while completing mandatory training to remain in compliance with organizational and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with young people and families served at The Children’s Center of Hamden, in accordance with the agency’s Boundary Code of Ethics.
  • Maintains awareness of The Children’s Center of Hamden’s Policy and Procedure Manuals and accesses relevant information as needed to guide decision-making and ensure compliance.
  • Contributes to a safe, welcoming, and equitable environment that reflects the agency’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
