We are seeking a Chemistry or Material Engineering Intern, primarily responsible for updating specifications for components used in energetic devices, and providing technical support within the company. The intern could be involved in laboratory material analyses and characterization that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, and definition and requirement specifications. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.

Requirements

Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Materials Science, Material Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline and actively enrolled through completion of the internship/co-op session.
Must be willing to work around explosives.
Knowledge of material science or chemistry.
Experience with analytical methods.
Ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Access (ATF).
Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Nice To Haves

Experience with MS Office.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers.
Proficient at prioritizing and managing work load, as well as have a very strong decision making and administrative abilities.
Self-motivated and ability to drive projects to completion.
Ability to multi task between multiple projects and work in a fast paced environment.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Identify, develop, and/or update appropriate technical specifications to apply to materials and chemicals used in manufacturing processes.
Performs material analyses that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, and definition and requirement specifications.
Create/modify manufacturing documents and drawings needed to support internal and contractual requirements.
Participate in brainstorming efforts for part design and/or new specification conditions and modify the design, tooling or procedures as required to provide reliable cost effective solutions.
Support continuous improvement activities to improve development project execution.
