About The Position

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician (Chemistry) at our Bakers facility in Monroe, NC. As a Lab Tech, you are part of an analytical process where you ensure products meet the chemistry specifications of both the industry and the customer. As a Lab Tech, you will take samples of metal material and test them using specific protocols. A successful candidate will need to exhibit good reasoning skills, be able to read and carry out complex technical procedures and have good attention to detail. This is a night shift position from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, working on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. You will work 2 days, have 2 days off, work 3 days; then 2 days off, work 2 days, then have 3 days off. Initial training will take place from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on the same rotating 2-2-3 schedule.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Advanced Math Skills (including decimals, fractions, rounding, averaging, and recognizing number patterns)

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year technical degree, advanced high school education in Chemistry, or 1 year of related work experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for chemical analysis by using various methods such as cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing equipment.
  • Perform routine chemical analysis using the Leco Oxygen/Nitrogen, Leco Carbon/Sulfur, Panalytical XRF, and ARL Optical Emission Spectromter (OES) instruments including sample sectioning and surface preparation.
  • Perform VIM In-process analysis including all preparation.
  • Perform various mechanical powder testing such as Ro-Tap sieve analysis, Microtrac particle size distribution analysis and various density tests.
  • Log batches and record results using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Perform regular calibration/verification and maintenance to ensure proper equipment operation. Record all activity by completing logbooks and other required documentation.
  • Adhere to and participate with company safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Perform work following all company quality standards and customer specifications to ensure a quality product is being produced including required documentation.
  • Assist in routine laboratory operations and/or perform other routine laboratory work as directed. Perform normal mechanical servicing and minor repairs of testing equipment.
