About The Position

Coe College invites applications for part-time, per-course Chemistry instructors beginning January 2027. These positions are for the Spring 2027 academic term only and are suited to graduate students and early-career individuals interested in teaching-focused liberal arts environments. Each per-course position includes one course and four laboratory sections; an applicant offered multiple courses may accept as many as fit their schedule. The successful candidates will join a community that values innovative pedagogy, hands-on learning, and close faculty–student interaction.

General Chemistry I Course Instructor: Teach General Chemistry I on campus Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m.; respond to student email questions; and hold regular office hours on a schedule determined by the instructor.

Chemistry Laboratory Instructor: Teach one or more sections of introductory chemistry laboratory and complete all grading. Laboratories may include General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, or Introduction to Organic and Biological Chemistry. Labs meet on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Instructors must respond to student email questions.

Requirements

• For the General Chemistry I course instructor position: M.S. in Chemistry or a closely related field.
• For the General Chemistry I course instructor position: ability to teach general chemistry.
• For the Chemistry Laboratory Instructor position: B.A. required; M.S. preferred, in Chemistry or a closely related field.
• For the Chemistry Laboratory Instructor position: ability to teach introductory chemistry laboratories, including safe laboratory practice.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Successful completion of a background and driver check in accordance with Coe College policy.

Nice To Haves

• M.S. in Chemistry or a closely related field for the Chemistry Laboratory Instructor position (preferred).
