Senior/Staff Chemical Process Engineer
About The Position
Mariana Minerals is seeking a highly motivated Senior/Staff Process Engineer to help build the critical minerals supply chain for energy, AI, mobility, technology, and defense. The company combines industry expertise with software, automation, and data-driven decision-making to develop responsible mineral sourcing and supply. In this role, you will lead the development and deployment of chemical refining processes and support software development for capital project execution and automated plant optimization. You will own process-area and equipment scopes from concept and modeling validation through procurement, engineering, fabrication, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and handover to operations. The role also involves collaborating across technical, project execution, software, and machine-learning teams to develop and scale mineral-refining designs and optimize equipment and plants.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to apply them to challenging problems.
- Strong foundation in chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, or process engineering, with demonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals to complex systems.
- Experience with plant and equipment engineering and design, including brownfield modifications and upgrades, greenfield design, and evaluation and optimization of operating facilities.
- Experience in one or more of the following environments: industrial manufacturing; large-scale mining or mineral processing, particularly hydrometallurgy, electrometallurgy, and pyrometallurgy; large-scale chemical production; or EPC/EPCM firms.
Responsibilities
- Lead process-area and equipment scopes from concept and modeling validation through procurement, engineering, fabrication, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and handover to operations.
- Manage external equipment providers, technology licensors, and engineering companies to deliver integrated, functional mineral-refining scopes.
- Build heat and material balances for integrated mineral refineries.
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for mineral refineries.
- Build first-principles-based models of chemical reactors and unit operations to validate and scale up designs.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement engineering solutions to optimize process designs, confirming functionality and performance under varied operating conditions.
- Work with lab technicians, pilot plant engineers, process engineers, project execution teams, and other cross-functional partners to scale designs from laboratory through commercial scale.
- Work with software and machine-learning teams to automate capital project execution workflows and develop equipment and plant optimization algorithms.
