Chemical Process Engineer

LED FastStart•Coushatta, LA

About The Position

The Chemical Process Engineer focuses on improving the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of plant assets and supporting plant operations through process optimization, efficiency improvements, troubleshooting, and development of permanent fixes. As a member of the R&D Tech Team, the engineer contributes to preliminary engineering for capital projects and may manage projects through completion. The role leads scale-up of R&D-developed products and processes and supports start-up of new expansion projects, including preliminary testing and design, training, start-up planning, troubleshooting, and optimization. It also leads root cause analyses (RCAs) for product quality issues and process failures. The position works with operations, the Tech Team, the Capital Group, the Quality Assurance Lab, equipment vendors, contractors, and other project personnel to improve process and equipment performance, investigate issues, and implement solutions. It uses the Management of Change (MOC) process and maintains technical information and document files as needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a directly related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Process Engineer or in a directly related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience in asset optimization and performance analysis, including structured SIPOC workflow mapping, OEE analysis, and KPI-based performance metrics such as Cp/Cpk to improve asset reliability, throughput, and operational efficiency.
  • 2 years of experience in industrial manufacturing facilities, including day-to-day operational guidance, commissioning and start-up support for critical process equipment, serving as field operations authority, and managing operational work permits in large-scale oil and gas environments.
  • 2 years of experience making real-time operational decisions and coordinating with field operators, maintenance teams, and project personnel in continuous, high-risk oil and gas field operations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor OEE data and other KPIs, including production rate, availability/uptime, and first-pass quality, to focus improvement activities on the plant’s most important needs.
  • Optimize process performance and monitor process capability.
  • Identify key levers for high equipment performance and implement procedures through Operator Work Instructions.
  • Standardize operational procedures and implement them through Work Instructions.
  • Troubleshoot process issues and develop procedures to minimize or eliminate their recurrence.
  • Identify and implement solutions to prevent process upsets and quality deviations.
  • Participate in or lead RCAs, Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), and risk analyses.
  • Support the Tech Team and Capital Group with engineering design, project scoping, preliminary equipment specifications, and cost estimates for capital or repair projects.
  • Identify, design, and manage capital projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Perform cost analyses to guide process and equipment optimization or upgrade decisions.
  • Lead plant scale-up and implementation of new R&D-developed products and processes.
  • Lead process improvement trials by developing trial plans, reviewing them with Operations, monitoring trials, compiling data, and issuing final reports.
  • Work with the Quality Assurance Lab to investigate quality issues and complaints, conduct RCAs, and help implement solutions.
  • Build relationships with key equipment vendors to optimize performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Coordinate contractors when managing their work.
  • Update technical information and document files as needed and use the Management of Change (MOC) process.
