Operates a variety of process equipment, including but not limited to; reaction systems, filters, storage tanks, reactors, pumps, process logic control systems (PLC), chillers, compressors and pressure vessels in compliance with prescribed operating procedures. Moves control settings to make necessary adjustments on equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields as directed by supervisor and written procedures. Monitors and records reactions, noting changes in chemical and physical properties and compositional changes of substances. Controls or operates chemical processes or systems of machines, using panelboards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment. Records operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings. Confers with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, or product quality. Draws samples of products and conducts quality control tests to monitor processing and to ensure that standards are met. Regulates or shuts down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel. Starts pumps to wash and rinse reactor vessels, to exhaust gases or vapors, to regulate the flow of raw materials, steam, air, or nitrogen to reactors, or to add products to converter or blending vessels. Loads and unloads raw materials, intermediates, and finished products into and out of process equipment. Patrols work areas to ensure that solutions in tanks or troughs are not in danger of overflowing. Notifies maintenance, stationary-engineering or other auxiliary personnel to correct equipment malfunctions or to adjust power, steam, water, or air supplies. Inspects and maintains operating units, such as scrubbers, storage tanks, pressure vessels, centrifuges, or driers to ensure that all are functioning and to maintain maximum efficiency. Turns valves to regulate flow of products or byproducts through agitator tanks, storage tanks, or pressure vessels and reactors. Calculates material requirements or yields according to formulas. Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), processing, and quality enhancements. All other duties as assigned, work must be performed on site.
