About The Position

The Chemical Engineering position at Firestone Polymers, LLC involves researching, designing, developing, and implementing chemical reactions used in processes that convert raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. This is an Experienced Professional role, requiring practical knowledge typically gained through advanced education and work experience. The individual will work independently with general supervision and may influence others by explaining facts, policies, and practices. The role addresses difficult but generally not complex problems. The position is onsite at the Lake Charles, LA facility, Monday through Friday. Candidates within a commutable distance to Lake Charles, LA are preferred, and sponsorship is not available for this role. Firestone Polymers, LLC is headquartered in Lake Charles, LA and manufactures polymers and synthetic rubber in an ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 registered plant. The company uses unique anionic polymerization technology to produce high purity, high molecular weight polybutadiene and various styrene-butadiene copolymers, sold globally for use in tires, impact modification of plastics, and hot melt adhesives. Statistical process control is utilized throughout operations. Firestone Polymers, LLC is a subsidiary of Bridgestone Americas, a division of Bridgestone Corporation.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a related Engineering discipline and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience

Responsibilities

  • Works on chemical engineering problems of moderate scope and assists with projects or processes while receiving general instructions from higher level professionals
  • Applies research to the planning, design development and testing of chemical engineering systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines
  • Designs chemical plant equipment and processes for the manufacture of chemical products such as gasoline, synthetic rubber, plastics, detergents, cement, paper, and pulp
  • Determines most effective arrangement of operations such as mixing, crushing, heat transfer, distillation, oxidation, hydrogenation, and polymerization
  • Other duties as assigned
