About The Position

We are currently hiring a Chef to join our Chances Castlegar Team. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, including banquets, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the kitchen. This role requires strong leadership abilities and the ability to work collaboratively with the Food and Beverage Manager.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of kitchen management experience
  • Food Safe Level 2
  • Strong customer focus and excellent communication skills.

  • Experience in reviewing staff schedules and monitoring staffing levels.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to increase revenue and decrease expenses while ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Proven ability to manage employee performance through training, coaching, and corrective action.
  • Ability to successfully obtain a criminal record check through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch.
  • Must be 19+

  • Red Seal certification would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the management team to plan and execute kitchen performance strategies.
  • Design cost-effective menus for the location, considering factors such as menu items, covers, and overall costs.
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff, providing guidance and mentorship for their professional development.
  • Contribute to performance appraisals and implement disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations by maintaining sanitary and safe food handling practices.
  • Manage the kitchen's ordering process, including providing a weekly ordering guide and selecting suppliers that offer quality products at competitive prices.
  • Work with the Food & Beverage Manager to develop and maintain high-quality food service standards.
  • Collaborate on banquet menu costing, daily and weekly specials, promotions, and special events.
  • Provide consultation on staffing, menu planning, training, and kitchen design.
