About The Position

Chartwells K12 is hiring a full-time Chef at Danbury Public Schools in Danbury, Connecticut. The Chef directs, coordinates, and evaluates kitchen, food production, and food-service associates. The role supervises and participates in food preparation, cooking, and service while ensuring food handling, sanitation, customer service, safety, production, and merchandising standards are met. The position pays $26.00 to $28.00 per hour. Work may be unpaid during school breaks when food-service needs decline or cease; depending on business needs, year-round work may be required, potentially at a different location during break periods.

Requirements

Prior warehouse kitchen experience is required.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Supervise, coordinate, and participate in the work of cooks and other associates preparing, cooking, and serving food.
Ensure food handling, sanitation, and customer service standards are met.
Supervise hourly kitchen associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews, and recommending disciplinary action.
Prepare high-quality food according to standardized recipes and production, delivery, and service schedules.
Serve meals or prepare meals for delivery.
Ensure proper food presentation, quality, portion control, and serving temperatures.
Track food use, waste, and consumption to requisition or purchase products.
Receive and inspect products and supplies for quality and quantity and maintain appropriate inventory.
Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils; thoroughly clean the workstation before leaving.
Keep display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service.
Help select and develop recipes and menus.
Perform other duties as assigned.
