About The Position

This position is for a Cheer Advisor for the 9th Grade and Junior Varsity football teams. The role involves providing students with an opportunity to participate in a competitive setting that fosters physical skills, teamwork, a sense of worth and competence, knowledge and understanding of the pleasures associated with cheerleading, and the principles of fair play. Competitive athletic programs are also intended to foster school spirit in a positive manner.

Requirements

  • Teaching certificate, preferred.
  • CPR training, preferred.
  • Previous cheerleading experience, preferred.
  • Competency and knowledge for coaching and organizing all phases of the cheerleading program.
  • Experience in coaching cheerleading.
  • Safety certification, required or willingness to pursue.
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Commitment and ability to maintain a solid program on a year-round basis or as time requires.
  • Works closely with varsity cheerleading advisors to assist and promote program development.
  • Instruct and demonstrate techniques and methods regarding movements associated with the latest cheerleading techniques as demonstrated at the varsity level.
  • Explain, instruct and enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Organize and conducts practice and training sessions.
  • Works closely with varsity advisor on maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Implements all Board policies including fund raising, season calendar, discipline, attendance, eligibility.
  • Regularly confers with students, parents, and varsity advisor regarding the program.
  • Assists with the development and execution of cheerleading tryouts at all levels.
  • Assists with the transitioning of student cheerleaders from one level to the next.
  • Demonstrates involvement in school events, such as pep rallies, homecoming events, spirit week, etc.
  • Promotes good human relations within student body, parents, faculty, and community.
  • Promotes a high academic standard and establish academic supports for student participants.
  • Willingness to take a leadership role to promote high ideals of sportsmanship, appropriate student participant behavior, a healthy lifestyle, and to serve as a positive role model for the students.
  • Ability to relate/communicate in a positive, appropriate manner to the student participant.
  • Maintains continued contact with Administration/Athletic office with regard to all aspects of the cheerleading program, including scheduling, transportation, budget, safety, and facilities.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his designee.
