About The Position

The Iowa City Community School District is seeking an Athletic Coach for 9th Grade Volleyball. The job goals are to provide skills that will engage all levels of athletes and promote physical activity to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. The position involves developing athletes to their fullest potential, starting with teaching basic fundamentals and progressing to advanced skills. The coach will also assist in monitoring academic records and ensuring eligibility, provide adequate supervision, and support the health and wellbeing of student athletes. This role requires a willingness to work cooperatively with other programs, work in the summer, on weekends, and at other allowable times to maintain a championship program, and perform additional duties as requested by administration. The terms of employment include contract days determined by the season of the sport, with salary and calendar year established by the Board of Education. Performance will be evaluated according to district policy, state statute, and any applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

  • Iowa Coaching Certification
  • Coaching experience
  • Experience working with junior high and/or high school youth
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Must maintain active CPR certification

Responsibilities

  • Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Iowa City Board of Education
  • Must work to form a positive professional relationship with players, coaches, parents and fans.
  • Must possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate and high school students in an athletic setting.
  • Will assist in monitoring academic records of student/athletes while following district/state eligibility rules.
  • Must provide adequate supervision before, during, and after all practices and competition.
  • Develop athletes to their fullest potential, starting with teaching basic fundamentals of the sport and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
  • Willing to work in the summer, on weekends, and at other allowable times in order to maintain a championship program.
  • Willingness to perform additional duties as requested by administration.
  • Supporting the health and wellbeing of student athletes.
  • Must maintain active CPR certification
  • Other duties as assigned
