About The Position
The Checker provides friendly and courteous customer service by greeting customers, accurately checking out purchases, collecting payment, and bagging orders. The role includes identifying produce and using produce and product codes, processing manufacturer coupons, following proper procedures for various payment methods, completing register records accurately, maintaining cash security, and replacing register receipt and coupon machine tapes. Regular, reliable attendance is an essential function. Training is provided at the store level. Other duties may be assigned at store management’s discretion.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
- Must be able to bend and stoop.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to work on their feet for the entire shift, which is 4–8 hours.
Nice To Haves
- For Store/Facility Teammates applying internally, a minimum of six months of employment with Schnucks is preferred.
- For Store Support Center Teammates applying internally, a minimum of one year of employment with Schnucks is preferred.
- Internal candidates must be in good standing and not on a performance improvement plan or active discipline.
- Internal candidates invited to interview must have manager approval based on performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide friendly and courteous service to customers.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
- Greet customers before checking their orders.
- Accurately check out customer purchases.
- Identify produce items and properly use produce and product codes.
- Distinguish between manufacturer coupons and Schnucks coupons.
- Process manufacturer coupons.
- Collect the correct amount due from customers.
- Follow proper procedures for accepting cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, EBT cards, WIC vouchers, and other payment options.
- Complete register records accurately.
- Practice and maintain cash security.
- Bag customer orders.
- Change register receipt and coupon machine tapes.
- Perform other duties assigned at the discretion of store management.
