About The Position

This role involves a combination of patient check-in duties and technical assistance, requiring the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will be patient, upbeat, friendly, and a team player. The Check-In Representative answers incoming calls, schedules appointments, or directs callers to appropriate departments while interviewing new patients, verifying demographics and insurance, and inputting information into appropriate systems. The Tech Assistant interviews patients, explains procedures, obtains medical history, positions patients for scans, and prepares necessary documentation and supplies.

Requirements

  • Six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Phlebotomy/venipuncture experience including the ability to start IVs and perform angio-cath injections.
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge.
  • Certification in CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Current ARRT certificate if performing X-ray.
  • Must continue to obtain the recommended amount of Continuing Education Credits each year for certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Checks in patients for exams, verifying information such as DOB, insurance, and exam orders.
  • Enters patient information into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and other software systems.
  • Scans necessary documents into patient records.
  • Assists patients with obtaining medical records while complying with HIPAA.
  • Helps patients complete kiosk questions and other necessary forms.
  • Ensures insurance information is estimated and accurate, addressing any errors.
  • Collects copays, co-insurances, and deductibles.
  • Runs end-of-day cash reports and balances the cash drawer.
  • Assists in keeping work areas and patient waiting areas clean.
  • Ensures patients follow CDC guidelines for Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Maintains patient information privacy.
  • Provides general information and answers patient questions about patient care.
  • Answers phone calls professionally and courteously.
  • May assist with scheduling appointments and referring patients.
  • Monitors patient arrivals through Virtual Check-in and Express Check-In.
  • Assists in Express Check-In by calling patients ahead of time to confirm information.
  • Confirms appointments as necessary.
  • Assures schedules are fully utilized.
  • Coordinates with tech staff for patient needs to maintain patient flow.
  • Maintains a professional work environment and communicates respectfully.
  • Interviews patients and explains CT procedures.
  • Obtains pertinent exam history, including symptoms, medical conditions, allergies, medications, related exams, and surgeries.
  • Verifies two forms of patient identification.
  • Utilizes tablets proficiently for patient histories.
  • Positions patients on the scanner table and ensures patient comfort.
  • Assists with lifting and transferring patients.
  • Obtains IV access with appropriate size angiocath for injections as needed.
  • Uses Piccolo and Istat chemical analyzer to obtain BUN/creatinine levels.
  • Obtains lab work (BUN and Creatinine) for specific patient groups.
  • Obtains previous reports and CDs from other facilities, hospitals, and doctor's offices.
  • Prepares films and CDs for referring physicians.
  • Creates viewer and DICOM CDs from PACS, Media Writer, or Vertex.
  • Works with RIS and PACS systems to complete patient records and mark them as 'verified'.
  • Verifies correct information and images in PACS and edits as needed.
  • Helps inventory supplies for ordering purposes and maintains stock using the order board.
  • Stocks CT scan room and prep room with appropriate supplies.
  • Maintains annual certification in CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Follows CT protocols.
  • Maintains cleanliness of room, table, and gantry.
  • Completes laundry as needed.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of the corporation.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required, which may be outside regular working hours.
