About The Position

This role involves multitasking in a fast-paced environment with excellent communication skills. Team members must be patient, upbeat, friendly, and able to work well in a team environment. The Check-In Representative answers incoming calls, schedules appointments, or directs callers to appropriate departments while interviewing new patients, verifying demographics and insurance, and inputting information into appropriate systems. The Tech Assistant interviews patients and explains CT procedures, obtains a pertinent exam history, positions patients on the scanner table, obtains IV access, and performs lab work. This role also involves preparing films and CDs for referring physicians, working with RIS and PACS systems, and maintaining inventory and cleanliness of the CT scan room.

  • Certification in CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.

  • Phlebotomy/venipuncture experience including the ability to start IV's and perform angio-cath injections.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred, or equivalent work experience and training.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year certificate from college or technical school (preferred).
  • One (1) year of experience in a similar role/customer service (preferred).
  • Must hold a current ARRT certificate if performing X-ray.
  • Continuing education in accordance with the ARRT, ACR, and State of Michigan.

Responsibilities

  • Checks in patients for exams, verifying information such as DOB, insurance, and that the exam ordered matches the physician order.
  • Enters patient information into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and other software systems.
  • Scans necessary documents into the patient's record.
  • Assists patients with obtaining medical records while complying with HIPAA.
  • Helps patients complete kiosk questions and other necessary forms.
  • Ensures insurance is estimated and accurate, addressing all errors before checking in the patient.
  • Collects copays, co-insurances, and deductibles, and balances the cash drawer.
  • Assists in keeping the work area and patient waiting areas clean.
  • Assures patients are following CDC guidelines for correct Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Maintains high standards of etiquette and patient privacy.
  • Gives general information and answers patient questions about patient care.
  • Answers phone calls with a professional and friendly greeting and closing remark.
  • May assist with scheduling appointments and referring patients.
  • Monitors patient arrival through Virtual check-in and express check-in.
  • Assists in Express Check-In by calling patients ahead of time to confirm information.
  • Confirms appointments to ensure schedules are fully utilized.
  • Keeps patient flow moving while coordinating with tech staff.
  • Travels to other sites based on business necessity.
  • Maintains a professional work environment and communicates respectfully with patients, family members, and staff.
  • Interviews patients and explains CT procedures.
  • Obtains a pertinent exam history, including symptoms, medical conditions, allergies, and medications.
  • Verifies two forms of patient identification.
  • Utilizes tablets proficiently for patient histories.
  • Positions patients on the scanner table and ensures patient comfort.
  • Assists/lifts/transfers patients.
  • Obtains IV access with appropriate size angiocath for injections as needed.
  • Uses Piccolo and Istat chemical analyzer to obtain BUN/creatinine levels.
  • Obtains lab work (BUN and Creatnine) for specific patient groups.
  • Obtains previous reports and CDs from other facilities, hospitals, and doctor's offices.
  • Prepares films and CDs for referring physicians.
  • Makes viewer and DICOM CDs from PACS, Media Writer, or Vertex.
  • Works on the computer with RIS, PACS, and other systems to complete patients and mark them as "verified" in PACS.
  • Verifies correct information and images in PACS and edits as needed.
  • Helps inventory all supplies for ordering purposes and utilizes the order board to maintain stock.
  • Stocks CT scan room and prep room with appropriate supplies.
  • Maintains annual certification in CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Follows CT protocols to ensure consistent patient care.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the room, table, and gantry.
  • Completes laundry as needed.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
