Position Summary The Driver/Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely transporting passengers, performing pre- and post-trip inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, and delivering outstanding customer service. This role requires reliability, professionalism, and adherence to all MDOT and company safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass DOT drug/alcohol screening, MVR, background check, and DOT physical.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and assist passengers safely.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, crouch, and secure mobility devices.
  • Availability for flexible or irregular schedules.
  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and safety focused
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Calm and effective in fast-paced or stressful situations.
  • Must complete and maintain all required safety certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years' professional driving experience (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year customer service experience (preferred).
  • Experience working with diverse populations and individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transporting passengers

  • Arrive ready to work and on time for every scheduled shift.
  • Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding absences or scheduling needs.
  • Represent People's Express with courtesy and professionalism at all times.
  • Operate company vehicles (cars, minivans, transit vans) safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and MDOT regulations.
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Secure passengers and mobility devices properly, ensuring safety throughout transport.
  • Report vehicle issues, incidents, or safety concerns immediately to a supervisor.
  • Maintain current knowledge of driving routes, conditions, and safety procedures.
  • Complete driver logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Attend required training sessions and monthly driver meetings.
  • Communicate updates or client accommodation needs to supervisors.
  • Provide courteous, patient, and respectful service to all passengers, including individuals with disabilities and older adults.
  • Offer information about People's Express and local service options.
  • Demonstrate empathy and calm professionalism in all situations.
