The Charge RN is an entry-level management position responsible for coordinating care during designated shifts and providing leadership to unit staff in patient care. As a registered nurse, the Charge RN implements the nursing process for assigned patients of all ages, from infancy through geriatrics, and is responsible for care within the parameters of the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act. The role promotes positive patient outcomes and quality of care, and supports change through participation in unit-based and hospital shared-governance councils. The Charge RN applies national professional nursing standards, critical thinking, and nursing judgment; collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to improve outcomes; and serves as a role model through ongoing professional development, teaching, and learning. This position is in the 10-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), which provides intensive-level cardiac care for adults through geriatric patients with conditions such as severe coronary artery disease, acute myocardial infarction, post-cardiac-arrest needs, cardiomyopathy, and arrhythmias requiring continuous monitoring. Balloon pumps, Impellas, temporary pacemakers, and invasive monitoring devices such as SWANs and arterial lines are commonly used. Staffing is typically one or two nurses to each patient. New graduate nurses are welcome. The position is full-time, 36 hours per week, on a night shift schedule of three 12-hour shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., including every third weekend. Sign-on bonus eligibility is noted for experienced critical care nurses.
