About The Position
The Charge Nurse is a professional nurse who manages the daily operations of one or more departments, providing patient services while meeting quality, legal, organizational, and medical staff goals. The role promotes efficient operations and effective nursing care in a designated department. The Charge Nurse manages the department independently under the guidance of a Nurse Manager or Director.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- At least one year of RN experience.
- Current applicable state RN licensure or permit.
- BLS certification required upon hire.
- ACLS certification required within three months of hire for PACU RNs and the other listed departments and roles.
- CPI certification required within three months of hire for the listed emergency, float pool, and behavioral health RN roles.
- PALS certification required within three months of hire for the listed emergency and float pool RN roles.
- NRP certification required within three months of hire for the listed L&D, Mother/Baby, and NICU RN roles.
Nice To Haves
- Academic degree in nursing (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree).
Responsibilities
- Assist with recruiting and training new hires.
- Prepare assigned reports for nurse managers.
- Assist with operational aspects of designated units while providing mentoring and leadership support to unit staff.
- Coordinate and direct daily patient care operations in the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
- Assess staff competencies and make patient care assignments.
- Maintain clear communication with the Nurse Manager and House Supervisor(s) regarding unit needs and incidents.
- Perform related duties as required.
