About The Position

The Charge Nurse is responsible for directing, administering, and recording the care given to residents in the facility. This role reports to the Director of Nursing and involves coordinating resident care according to their care plans, managing nursing staff on the unit, and ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. The Charge Nurse also oversees the administration of medications and treatments, and may be required to assist with staffing shortages.

Requirements

Must have a valid Kansas nursing license that is in good standing with the State.
Must have basic computer skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must be able to perform the essential position functions of the job with, or without reasonable accommodation.
Employee is required to use a transfer/gait belt or to obtain the assistance of another employee when attempting to assist residents when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Communicate with family members regarding the progress of the resident.
May be required to assist visiting physicians in rounds.
May be required to draw blood and obtain fluids to submit for lab work.
Record and monitor all progress of residents and communicate with physicians according to facility policies.
May be required to assist in dining area and assist in feeding.
Monitor work of other nursing staff in unit to insure thoroughness and assist with tasks as needed.
Make rounds to insure cleanliness and proper care to residents.
Coordinates care of residents in accordance with their care plans.
Effectively manages all nursing staff assigned to unit.
May be required to complete various reports as needed.
Monitors personal and staff compliance to all State and federal requirements including blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety.
Monitors personal and staff compliance to resident’s rights.
Assures that all medications and treatments are administered as ordered and in a timely fashion according to facility policies and schedules.
Required to replace nursing staff that call in sick with additional staff.
May be required to help provide nursing services when sufficient staff cannot be attained.
