About The Position

The Charge Nurse is responsible for directing, administering, and recording the care given to residents in the facility. This role reports to the Director of Nursing and involves a general list of key job duties and responsibilities, with the understanding that additional duties may be assigned by an authorized supervisor. The position requires effective management of nursing staff, coordination of resident care according to care plans, and ensuring compliance with all state and federal requirements. The Charge Nurse also oversees medication and treatment administration and may be required to assist with staffing shortages.

Requirements

Must have a valid Kansas nursing license that is in good standing with the State.
Must have basic computer skills.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must be able to perform the essential position functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required to use a transfer/gait belt or to obtain the assistance of another employee when attempting to assist residents when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Direct, administer, and record the care given to residents.
Communicate with family members regarding resident progress.
Assist visiting physicians in rounds.
Draw blood and obtain fluids for lab work.
Record and monitor resident progress and communicate with physicians.
Assist in the dining area and with feeding residents.
Monitor the work of other nursing staff in the unit and assist with tasks.
Use telephones to communicate with physicians, arrange transportation for appointments, and contact families.
Make rounds to ensure cleanliness and proper care for residents.
Coordinate resident care in accordance with their care plans.
Effectively manage all nursing staff assigned to the unit.
Complete various reports as needed.
Monitor personal and staff compliance with all State and federal requirements, including blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety.
Monitor personal and staff compliance with resident’s rights.
Ensure that all medications and treatments are administered as ordered and in a timely fashion according to facility policies and schedules.
Replace nursing staff who call in sick with additional staff.
Help provide nursing services when sufficient staff cannot be attained.
