About The Position

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor. It coordinates and oversees case management activities to prevent perinatal transmission of Hepatitis B. The role involves educating patients and families on Hepatitis B transmission and prevention, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, healthcare providers, and community partners to ensure appropriate care coordination, follow-up, and optimal outcomes for both mothers and newborns. The position ensures program activities comply with local, state, and federal guidelines.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of professional nursing experience, preferably in public health, infectious disease, immunization, or a closely related field, including one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Tennessee, or eligibility for licensure prior to employment.
  • Experience in perinatal hepatitis B case management, public health program coordination, and policy development, or closely related public health program experience.
  • Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health or surveillance systems used for case tracking and reporting.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license by date of employment.
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet Shelby County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Must be willing to carry and utilize a cellular phone and tablet (iPad) to perform program duties.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain an active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Tennessee and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and training credentials throughout the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and manages perinatal hepatitis B cases in Shelby County by identifying, tracking, and documenting cases and conducting pregnancy investigations and care coordination activities.
  • Provides case management oversight to ensure infants exposed to hepatitis B receive appropriate prophylaxis, complete the hepatitis B vaccination series, and obtain post-vaccination serologic testing.
  • Collaborates with birthing hospitals to develop, implement, and strengthen policies and procedures that support the prevention of perinatal hepatitis B transmission.
  • Develops and delivers training to healthcare providers and staff on perinatal hepatitis B prevention guidelines, reporting requirements, and best practices.
  • Builds partnerships and collaborates with epidemiologists, Public Health Nurses, healthcare providers, and Immunization Program staff to ensure coordinated program implementation.
  • Monitors program activities and evaluates outcomes, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance prevention strategies and program effectiveness.
  • Provides community education and outreach on perinatal hepatitis B prevention and serves as a liaison with healthcare organizations and national partners, including the CDC Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program.
  • Participates in public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with job classification and training provided in response to natural disasters and threats to public health.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
