About The Position

Adventureland is seeking Entertainment hosts to bring its character program to life. Character Performers wear body or fur-suit costumes to greet, meet, and entertain park guests with energetic, immersive performances, while Character Attendants escort and assist costumed characters and engage guests in activities. The role may also support special events, corporate functions, and seasonal park events. Uniforms and costumes are provided.

Requirements

• Successfully pass an audition and/or character training for the role.
• Be at least 16 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Be able to work 20 or more hours per week when needed.
• Have reliable transportation to and from work for scheduled shifts.
• Comply with grooming standards and uniform or costume requirements.
• Be between 5'3" and 5'10" in height and have a slim to average build.
• Be able to immerse in the role and remain in character throughout the performance.
• Have strong cardio endurance, physical storytelling abilities, and performance energy.
• Be playful, outgoing, friendly, and guest-centric.
• Have effective verbal and non-verbal acting and communication skills.
• Be able to follow direction, multitask, and work as part of a fast-paced team.
• Be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Create fun, immersive character performances for park guests.
• Meet and greet guests in a fun and memorable manner.
• Arrive prepared and in costume on time for scheduled character meet-and-greets.
• Maintain the illusion of the character through physical movement and interactions with guests.
• Follow park character-training protocols and perform as scripted.
• Communicate costume- or environment-related safety concerns promptly.
• Return costumes to storage properly, maintain their appearance, spot-clean them as trained, report maintenance needs, and assist with costume maintenance and repair.
• Maintain personal hygiene and appropriate underlayers when using shared costumes.
• Escort and assist costumed characters around the park and at off-property special functions or events.
• Encourage guest participation in planned events and activities.
• Facilitate activities for diverse age groups and adapt activities for different ability levels.
• Lead predesigned guest activities and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
• Organize activity-material stock and follow safety rules for equipment, art supplies, and chemicals.
• Enforce park property policies and procedures and maintain a positive, friendly attitude toward guests.
• Assist Entertainment and AV technicians with audio and lighting during special events, if applicable.
• Assist with executing corporate functions for groups ranging from 50 to more than 2,500 guests.
• Assist in planning, preparing, and executing corporate or seasonal park events.
• Perform other duties assigned by leadership.
