About The Position

The Inpatient Palliative Care Chaplain is responsible for providing spiritual guidance and emotional support to patients, families, and staff within the hospital's palliative care program. Reporting directly to the Palliative Care Medical Director, this chaplain will play a critical role in addressing spiritual, emotional, and psychosocial needs for those dealing with chronic illness, end-of-life care, and distress. The chaplain will work collaboratively as part of the palliative care team, integrating spiritual care into patient treatment plans and participating in interdisciplinary meetings.

Requirements

  • Master of Divinity or Master’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related area from an accredited institution (CHEA accredited).
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required.
  • Minimum of two years of chaplaincy experience.
  • At least one year in a palliative care or hospital setting preferred.
  • Experience with chronic illness, end-of-life care, or hospice patients is essential.
  • Board certification (or eligibility) with the National Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or equivalent certifying body.
  • If ordained, must be in good standing with the ordaining religious body.
  • Ability to provide spiritual care to people of diverse religious, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and emotional support skills.
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records and basic computer skills.
