About The Position

Midwestern University's College of Graduate Studies (CGS) is seeking a stipend position for a Chair of the Department of Pharmacology in Glendale, Arizona, starting January 2027. The Chair will represent and manage the department at college and university levels. Responsibilities include participating in team-taught courses for various health science students, providing leadership and vision, and collaborating with Deans on policymaking and program expansion. The Chair will also oversee faculty workload, recruitment, performance evaluations, retention, and professional development, while guiding and monitoring academic, curricular, scholarly, and service activities of the department.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a pharmacology-related field or medicine.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Must hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher at the time of hire.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in academia.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to the education of future health-care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective representation and management of the department at both the college and university levels.
  • Participate in one or more team-taught courses for Osteopathic Medical, Dental, Optometry, Biomedical Sciences, Precision Medicine, Public Health, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Veterinary students.
  • Provide leadership and vision for the department.
  • Participate with the Dean(s) or Associate Dean(s) in policymaking, expansion, and governance of the colleges and programs supported by the College of Graduate Studies and the academic department.
  • Oversee workload assignment, faculty recruitment, performance evaluation, retention, and professional development of faculty.
  • Provide guidance for and monitor academic, curricular participation, scholarly, and service activities of the department.
  • Demonstrate or have the potential to lead and administer an academic department.
  • Interact effectively with students, faculty members, and administrators.
  • Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary teaching and research environment.
  • Engage in the local and national communities and promote the engagement of others.
  • Show commitment to diversity in the actions and plans of the Department.
