About The Position

The AMS Judicial Committee is the ultimate adjudicating body of the Alma Mater Society and responsible for hearing cases related to: Level I Non-Academic Misconduct, Policy Infringement, Disputes on the ruling of the Speaker of Assembly, and Elections. The Judicial Committee Chair oversees and chairs all meetings of the Judicial Committee, to ensure that they follow duly established procedure. The Judicial Committee is a non-voting member of all hearings, and responsible for releasing a summary of the decision within 72 hours (about 3 days) of the hearing date. While the Judicial Committee Chair reports administratively to the Secretariat and Judicial Affairs Office, the AMS Judicial Committee remains independent from the AMS. The Judicial Committee Chair acts as an advisor to the Judicial Affairs Office where needed to ensure the pillars of the judicial branch are upheld.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold confidentiality and integrity of the non-academic misconduct system
  • Participate in pan AMS hiring efforts
  • Work with the Vice-Chair to summarize committee rationale, and release a decision on a timely manner
  • Chair all hearings of the Judicial Committee, and ensure they follow policies and procedures of the AMS
  • Act as a resource for, and mediate between the Judicial Affairs Office and the Alma Mater Society
  • Uphold the pillars of the judicial branch: peer-led, non-adversarial, complaint driven, restorative justice and procedural fairness
  • Attend all training sessions to become familiar with the department and adhere to the general operations of the department
  • Monitor employee/volunteer performance to mitigate disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures and notify Head Manager of any issues that arise
  • Ensure all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution
  • Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed
  • Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the department operating to our level of standards, and to set a positive example for your team
  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
  • Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, procedures and ethical standards
  • Exhibit a working knowledge of service staff portfolios and oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
  • Respect and adhere to all company policies, procedures and ethical standards
  • Maintain timely communication with your direct supervisor
  • Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings
  • Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively
