About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking an accomplished, collaborative, and visionary ophthalmologist to serve as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a premier leadership opportunity within one of the world's leading academic medical centers. The Chair will provide strategic, academic, clinical, and operational leadership for a highly respected department, advancing Mayo Clinic's integrated model of care while championing excellence across clinical practice, education, research, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The Chair will advance the three Mayo Clinic shields of clinical practice, education, and research while helping define the future direction of ophthalmology in Florida and across the Mayo Clinic enterprise. About the Department The Department of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic Florida is a multidisciplinary academic practice that delivers comprehensive medical and surgical eye care across a broad range of subspecialties. The department serves as a tertiary and quaternary referral center and collaborates extensively with colleagues across Mayo Clinic to care for patients with complex ocular and systemic diseases. Clinical expertise includes: Cataract and refractive surgery, Cornea and external disease, Glaucoma, Retina and vitreoretinal surgery, Neuro-ophthalmology, Ocular oncology, Oculoplastic and orbital surgery, Comprehensive ophthalmology, Complex anterior segment surgery. Faculty work closely with specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, endocrinology, rheumatology, transplant medicine, and other disciplines within Mayo Clinic's integrated practice model. The department also supports nationally recognized fellowship programs and is deeply committed to training future leaders in ophthalmology.

Requirements

  • Board certification in Ophthalmology.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Florida.
  • A distinguished record of clinical excellence.
  • Significant leadership experience within an academic medical center, integrated health system, or large physician organization.
  • Demonstrated success in faculty recruitment, development, and mentorship.
  • A strong record of scholarly achievement and academic productivity.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and fostering collaboration.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Academic credentials consistent with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
