Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) invites applications for Chair, Department of Endodontics. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment, either clinical or tenure-track (preferably TT), at the rank of associate professor or full professor, based on credentials and qualifications. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2027, or sooner. For candidates seeking appointment on the tenure track, application materials must include evidence of sustained scholarly activity consistent with School and University expectations. The successful candidate should possess academic leadership experience, a national reputation for excellence in Endodontics, documented success in leading strategic initiatives, and a strong record of scholarship and research. The Department of Endodontics is responsible for the endodontic education of pre-doctoral dental students and graduate students in the Endodontics residency program. The Department Chair provides leadership for the vision, strategic direction, and long-term growth of the Department of Endodontics, aligning with the mission and priorities of the School of Dentistry. The Chair oversees departmental operations, faculty and staff supervision, curriculum management, and fiscal stewardship. This role includes mentoring and evaluating faculty, providing input on promotion, tenure, reappointment, and merit processes, and ensuring high-quality didactic and clinical education within the full scope of Endodontics. The Chair reports to the Dean and collaborates with other members of the Dean’s cabinet, including department chairs and associate deans, as well as the Office of Clinical Affairs team to support effective clinical education, patient care, and faculty development. Responsibilities include managing departmental curriculum and academic workload assignments, aligning teaching responsibilities with clinical operations, ensuring compliance with CODA accreditation standards and institutional policies, and supporting faculty scholarship and professional growth. The Chair communicates regularly with the Dean, participates in school leadership and committee meetings, and serves as a key liaison between departmental faculty and School administration. There is an expectation that the Chair will play a teaching role, providing clinical and classroom teaching and supervision. Opportunities exist to supervise and mentor residents in research related to their postdoctoral program and assist in preparing postdoctoral dental students for specialty board examinations. Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning informed by interdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creative expression. As the state’s premier urban research institution, Indiana University is committed to being a welcoming campus community. The IU School of Dentistry seeks candidates whose teaching, service, scholarship, research, and community engagement efforts contribute to robust learning, working, and patient care environments. This commitment is core to our mission through our school-owned clinics and educational programs in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, Indiana. IUSD offers a dynamic learning environment for faculty, where teaching, research, clinical care, and community service are central to our mission. Our main facility includes a state-of-the-art 45,000–square-foot James J. Fritts DDS Clinical Care Center on the IU-Indianapolis campus, adjacent to local hospitals and part of an urban academic health center.
