About The Position

CACI is seeking a Part Time/Part-Time On Call Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) SME in allied processes (welding specific) with AWS CWI certification. This is not a remote position. This position will require extensive travel (100% unless the applicant lives near one of the shipyards in which work is performed). Work schedule is not a typical 9-5 and there is considerable overtime work required when deployed. While the position is Part Time due to the irregular schedule, the actual hours worked will be in excess of regular full-time hours on an annual basis. Work locations include but not limited to: Norfolk, VA, Charleston, SC, Mobile, AL, Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA, Philadelphia, PA. Applicants must have significant experience working with marine-grade aluminum alloys. All qualified travel expenses are reimbursed at government per diem rates for hotel and meals. Extensive travel required both CONUS and OCONUS locations in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance
  • Current AWS CWI certification and endorsements in AWS D1.2, Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Structural Drawing Reading (SME proposed without endorsements shall clearly have a minimum of nine (9) years of documented experience with NDT practices, writing weld procedures, reading structural drawings, project oversight, and clearly demonstrate experience with aluminum welding).
  • Experience with inspection of aluminum welds, optimally including inspection for welds on sensitized aluminum.
  • Expert knowledge of welding and experience with inspection of welds including but not limited to slot/plug welds, NDT on sensitized aluminum, complex welds/experience with ~25mm thick to ~3mm plate, friction stir welds, weld inspection of varying material specs with minimum knowledge of 5454, 5083, and 6061 and any other commonly used Marine Grade Aluminum Alloys.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Physical ability to enter into and work comfortably within confined spaces, holds, tanks, and ascend/descend ladder wells

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (structural engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, naval architecture
  • Experience with aluminum ship design and construction.
  • Active SECRET-level Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect aluminum weldments throughout each ship, including all superstructure, within holds, confined spaces, tanks, etc.
  • Detail all findings in daily logs and weekly reports, working closely with government personnel, ship's crew, and other inspectors.
  • Write monthly reports detailing work performed under contract.
  • Be responsible for scheduling their travel, working with CACI management staff in the process and following all CACI and federal policy regarding the same.
  • Limited tasking may be assigned for remote technical work based on customer requirements.
