Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) Level 3

About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, and provides manufacturing and supply-chain support across Blue Origin facilities. The position supports fabrication and development teams working on welding and fabrication, machining, and final integration and testing of large tooling, landing platforms, and other launch infrastructure. The role is intended to certify welds across fabrication teams and requires commitment to Blue Origin’s mission and vision.

Requirements

Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification and at least 3 years of experience.
Experience with GTAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes.
Extensive knowledge of nondestructive testing processes, including VT, PT, and MT.
Experience inspecting to and working in accordance with national fabrication codes and standards, such as AWS D17.1, ASME BPVC Section IX, B31.1, B31.3, AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6, and D14.0.
Experience upholding shop fabrication requirements established in codes and standards for code-compliant fabrication.
Experience with welder performance qualification tasks.
Ability to learn, grow, and tackle new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent attention to detail and task ownership; pride in work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle projects of varying sizes with internal and external customers.
Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
Ability to perform duties involving lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.
Availability to work all required shift hours, including overtime and weekends, as needed.
Willingness to travel 25% of the time.
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Required to complete Blue’s Standard Background Check.

Nice To Haves

Experience in large assembly or tooling fabrication.
Experience developing weld maps to track completed inspections on large assemblies during fabrication.
Experience reviewing manufacturing drawings, including a robust understanding of welding symbols.
Ability and willingness to train cross-functional engineering teams on welding requirements and weldment design.
Experience working with carbon and stainless steels, aluminum alloys, nickel-based alloys, and/or other aerospace materials.
Experience with hardware manufacturing processes such as mechanized welding, machining, cleaning, nondestructive testing, tight-tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, and working with large assemblies.
Experience supporting aerospace design and manufacturing teams, including preparing specifications, test reports, and design substantiation documentation.

Responsibilities

Certify welds across fabrication teams.
Inspect fabrication work in accordance with national fabrication codes and standards and uphold shop fabrication requirements for code-compliant fabrication.
Perform welder performance qualification tasks.
Support small and large projects with internal and external customers.
Work required shift hours, including overtime and weekends as needed.
Travel as required; the position indicates travel of 25%.
