About The Position

The Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) is a data information specialist responsible for the identification, collection, and management of health, medical and outcome information on oncology patients, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Primary responsibilities include abstracting and coding specific patient, cancer and treatment information from numerous sources, as well as maintain and update existing patient records annually. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree required
  • Certified Tumor Registry (CTR) - National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) OR Oncology Data Specialist - Certified (ODS-C) required

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Tumor Registry experience preferred
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Abstract cancer-related data, according to ICD-10, American College of Surgeons, American Joint Commission On Cancer (AJCC), and other guidelines, to generate reports regarding cancer surveillance and improvement of care.
  • Assist in performing quality assurance reviews.
  • Assist monthly and annually data submission process, to ensure compliance with the American College of Surgeons, American Joint Commission On Cancer (AJCC), and other guidelines.
  • Facilitate and organize tumor board and other case conferences.
  • Gather and code patient, cancer and treatment information from numerous sources; maintain and update existing patient records, verify and review cancer registry data, and correct any discrepancies.
  • Monitor, report, and record tumor registry activities, to ensure compliance with Commission On Cancer (CoC) and other accreditations.
  • Process data requests, compile reports, and calculate statistics from the tumor registry.
  • Review patient cases, identify potential cases for the registry, and assess whether the case is reportable, is already reported, or could potentially be recorded in a file of non-reportable cases.
  • Follow-up on each case abstracted for the life of the patient.
  • Ensures that follow-up information is collected for each case annually according to Commission on Cancer rules.
  • Support management and tumor registry coordinator in the process for Cancer Center accreditation.
