About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, the Certified Theatre and Communication Arts Teacher (K–8) is responsible for supporting the Diocese of Tucson in its mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The teacher shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life. This role involves teaching foundational techniques in acting, improvisation, vocal projection, script analysis, stage movement, character development, and stagecraft to students in kindergarten through eighth grade, fostering creativity, confidence, collaboration, and effective communication skills. The teacher will develop lesson plans aligned with Arizona State Standards and integrate Catholic values, virtues, and faith formation. Responsibilities include assessing student progress, directing theatrical productions, overseeing technical aspects of productions, coordinating rehearsal schedules, managing resources, communicating with families, and assisting with budgeting. The teacher must actively support the mission, philosophy, and values of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School and Catholic education, integrating Diocesan Religion Standards and Catholic virtues into daily instruction. They will also assist in incorporating drama and performances into school liturgies and faith-based activities, modeling Christian values and professional conduct. Proficiency in Google Classroom or similar online platforms is required, along with developing and using effective evaluation methods. The teacher must create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment, fostering open communication with parents, colleagues, and administration. Collaboration with faculty and staff for interdisciplinary learning and school-wide events is expected, as is participation in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities. Confidentiality, sound judgment, and adherence to the school dress code are essential. The teacher will abide by rules from the principal and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Certified Teacher: Has an Arizona Standard Professional Teaching Certificate through the AZ Department of Education that is current and in good standing.
  • Certified Teacher: Has an Alternative Teacher Certificate through the AZ Department of Education.
  • A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church.
  • If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communications skills including written, oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
  • Be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation.
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment.
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Valid and current Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Certified by the State of Arizona as a Teacher with renewal per state law.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain Level I Diocesan Ministry Certification.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Theatre, Fine Arts, Education, or a closely related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate student progress using a variety of performance-based and traditional assessment methods while maintaining accurate records for grading and report cards.
  • Direct, calendar, and coordinate theatrical productions, including Christmas programs, spring productions, talent showcases, grade-level performances, and faith-centered presentations.
  • Oversee technical aspects of productions, including set design, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and backstage operations.
  • Coordinate rehearsal schedules, manage production resources, communicate with families, and assist with budgeting and acquisition of materials as needed.
  • Actively support and promote the mission, philosophy, and values of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School and Catholic education.
  • Integrate Diocesan Religion Standards and Catholic virtues such as respect, compassion, service, empathy, and community into daily instruction and student interactions.
  • Assist with incorporating drama, presentations, and student performances into school liturgies, prayer services, seasonal celebrations, sacramental events, and other faith-based activities.
  • Model Christian values and professional conduct consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Ability to use Google classroom or other online platform for teaching and learning.
  • Develop and use effective methods of evaluation that are directly related to curriculum objectives and to concepts and skills taught; consistently, clearly, and effectively evaluate student progress.
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment that encourages creativity, self-expression, teamwork, and confidence.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, colleagues, and administration regarding student progress, performance opportunities, and classroom expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support interdisciplinary learning, school-wide events, faith formation activities, and the overall educational mission of the school.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, diocesan training, and school activities as required.
  • Support extracurricular activities, school performances, admissions events, and community-building initiatives as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information, display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
  • Abide by rules and directives received from the principal; perform other specific duties as assigned.
