About The Position

We have a new need for four Certified Surgical Technologists at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA. This role involves performing the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post-operative dressings. Responsibilities include ensuring surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization, restocking surgical supplies, and maintaining a clean, safe environment for the patient. Certified Surgical Technologists will also pull supplies for next day cases, perform scrub duties, prepare and maintain sterile fields, anticipate surgeon needs, handle surgical instruments and supplies, and comply with sterile processing and infection control standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, or Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians.
  • At least one year of recent post-grad clinical experience within the past 2-years as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician.
  • Minimum one year of recent Operating Room scrub experience (within the last year).
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation.
  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
  • Current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Submit to a background check and pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post-operative dressings.
  • Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, to include restocking surgical supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment for the patient either by active participation in the cleaning of clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in the environmental maintenance.
  • Pull supplies for next day cases.
  • Perform scrub duties for surgical procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs.
  • Handle surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Comply with sterile processing and infection control standards.
