About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist performs the full spectrum of sterile techniques, including setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post-operative dressings. This role ensures surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure and restocks surgical supplies. The technologist also maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient by actively participating in the cleaning of clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in environmental maintenance. Responsibilities include pulling supplies for next day cases, performing scrub duties for surgical procedures, preparing and maintaining sterile fields, anticipating surgeon needs, handling surgical instruments and supplies, and complying with sterile processing and infection control standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, or Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians.
  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
  • One year of experience within the last two years as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician.
  • Minimum one year of recent OR scrub experience (within the last year).
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation.
  • Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
