About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist prepares and maintains a sterile field during surgical procedures, passes instruments to the surgeon, and performs basic assisting duties. The role provides supplies, equipment, and instruments for assigned procedures; may serve as a second circulator; assists with monitoring and ordering supplies; functions as a preceptor; participates in cleaning rooms and equipment; and helps meet other department needs. The position is classified as at risk for possible occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

Requirements

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
BLS certification within 30 days.
Surgery experience.
Continuing education to remain competent in current standards of practice.
Positive, service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the ages served, including understanding growth and development across the life span and assessing and interpreting patient-status information to identify and address age-specific needs.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate flexibility in using instrumentation and equipment to adapt to changing patient needs.
Support implementation of clinical changes and evidence-based practices.
Follow professional and JCAHO care standards and recognize personal accountability for those standards.
Maintain appropriate isolation techniques and universal precautions to support a clean and safe work environment.
Use supplies and equipment efficiently and cost-effectively.
Stay informed about changes in policies, procedures, and equipment.
Tailor care to patients’ age-specific and developmental needs.
Use proper body mechanics when working with instrumentation and setting up cases.
Protect patients’ rights to confidentiality of care and treatment.
