About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist organizes, directs, and performs activities related to instrumentation, sterilization, and supplies that are utilized for patient care in the operating room. This role is responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting the surgeon, managing inventory of surgical instrumentation and supplies, sterilizing equipment, and stocking necessary supplies. The position requires effective communication with physicians and OR staff, and involves working in a high-risk environment for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other biohazardous waste.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program
• Basic Life Skills Certification (BLS); must obtain within the first 30 days of hire into the role
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery- Certified (TS-C) of Certified First Assistant (CFA)
• Knowledge of clinical standards and practices of surgical technology
• Ability to use hand quickly with precision
• Effective communicator; Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Good listening skills to comprehend and quickly respond to the needs of the surgeon and surgical team
• Keen attention to detail
• High degree of responsiveness to changing schedules and priorities throughout the day
• Near visual acuity required to work with documentation, instrument gauges, dials, and equipment indicators

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room for incoming surgeries
• Assisting surgeon in the operating room
• Inventory surgical instrumentation and supplies prior to an operation
• Recount surgical instruments and supplies at the end of an operation
• Sterilize equipment and stock up on necessary supplies
• All other assigned duties related to attending the operating room
