About The Position

The Surgical Technologist supports perioperative services by preparing operating rooms, transporting patients and materials, preparing patients for procedures, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining cleanliness before, during, and after surgery. The role provides technical assistance to surgeons by anticipating and passing instruments, ensuring instruments function properly and remain free of debris, and measuring and passing medications, hemostatic agents, and other solutions. This position is listed at .9 FTE and requires call.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association within 90 days.
Prior Certified Surgical Technologist experience.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification; NBSTSA certificate required.

Responsibilities

Clean the surgical environment after procedures and prepare the operating room for turnover.
Remove equipment and dispose of contaminated equipment and supplies, sharps, biohazardous waste, regular trash, and contaminated linens according to policies and procedures.
Transport patients as required.
Handle specimens in accordance with unit policy and procedure.
Maintain awareness of items requiring counts and assist the circulating nurse with the count process.
Measure and pass medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions during surgical procedures.
Participate in surgical site and patient verification during the procedure time-out.
Obtain the appropriate instruments, supplies, equipment, and records for specific procedures.
Open surgical supplies and equipment, clean and prepare instruments for sterilization, and restock pre-operative carts.
Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations to maintain a safe procedural environment.
Assist surgeons and other operating-room team members by anticipating and passing instruments and maintaining instruments during procedures.
