About The Position
Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse, the Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room. This role involves maintaining knowledge and practice of aseptic technique, assisting the circulating nurse, preparing the sterile field, anticipating the needs of the surgeon during procedures, functioning as an assistant when needed, performing counts with the circulating nurse, caring for specimens, and maintaining proper care of instruments and supplies. The technologist also maintains equipment, supplies, and environmental safety, stays updated on current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation, participates in in-services and committees to maintain standards, and functions as a preceptor for new associates and students.
Requirements
- Certified Surgical Tech
- Current BLS certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- Formal Aseptic Technique Training
- Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Previous surgical tech experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique.
- Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures.
- Prepares sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available for use.
- Anticipation of needs for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies during surgical procedures.
- Functions as assistant, when needed.
- Obtains counts with circulating nurse.
- Cares for specimens according to procedure.
- Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished.
- Maintains equipment, supplies and environmental safety.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Maintains standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc.
- Functions as preceptor to new associates and students.
