About The Position

Texas Health Dallas is seeking a PRN Certified Surgical Specialist, CST to join their Surgery team. This role involves assisting the RN circulator in formulating a plan of care, preparing and organizing the operating room, and providing peri-operative care for a diverse patient population including infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. The specialist will also coordinate patient care peri-operatively, maintain professional nursing practice standards, and follow proper procedures for the care of instruments, supplies, and equipment post-operatively. Texas Health Dallas is a Magnet-designated, full-service hospital with over 50 years of experience, specializing in various areas including cancer care, cardiology, neurosciences, women's services, and emergency medicine. They are a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Care Center, a Level I Trauma Center, and a designated Magnet hospital.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009.
  • Other Graduate of an accredited surgery technology program, vocational nurse program or graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology required
  • 2 years recent experience in a surgical service specialty (robotics, orthopedics, neurology) with a minimum of 150 cases performed in that specialty.
  • CST – Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) or TS – C (NCCT)
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program, or
  • Employed to practice Surgical Technology in a healthcare facility prior to September 1, 2009, or
  • Graduate/completion of a military training program in Surgical Technology or
  • LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse Upon Hire Req
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Upon Hire Required

Responsibilities

  • Preoperatively assists R.N. circulator in formulating plan of care.
  • Prepare and organize the operating room.
  • Assists in providing peri-operative care for a patient population that includes infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Assists as needed in coordinating patient care peri-operatively.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for behavior in order to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
  • Post-operatively follows proper procedures for care of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Under supervision, assists RN circulators with post-operative duties.
