About The Position

The Certified Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon in performing approved surgical procedures under the operating surgeon’s direct supervision and at the surgeon’s request. The role is based in the North Tower operating room at Royal Oak Hospital, where teams care for inpatients and outpatients in a fast-paced Level 1 trauma center. The unit’s specialties include Urology, Gynecology, ENT, and OMFS, and it supports a broad robotic surgery program.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Completion of a Surgical Tech First Assistant or Certified Surgical Assistant program required.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through the NCCSA, Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through the NBSTSA, or Surgical Assistant (SA-C) through the ABSA is required upon hire.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree or equivalent preferred; relevant experience in lieu of an associate’s degree may be considered.
• Two years of relevant experience; surgical assisting experience preferred.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) preferred.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification through the NBSTSA preferred.
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
