Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
About The Position
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for its Center of Advanced Practice. As a CRNA at St. Jude, you will provide anesthesia care for pediatric patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. You will work as a key member of the Physician Anesthesiologist/CRNA care team, performing pre-anesthesia assessments, administering and managing anesthesia throughout procedures, supporting patient recovery, and providing post-anesthesia care. CRNAs are part of a center that offers opportunities for professional development, clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and participation in clinical trials. Advanced Practice Providers are encouraged to contribute to publications, presentations, and conferences at the local, national, and international levels. Requirements
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
- Graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs
- ACLS, PALS
- Certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). Recertification every two years by The Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
- Current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure Non-Compact state.
- Current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- Current Advanced Practice Nurse License issued by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities
- Administers safe anesthesia, including reviewing and discussing the anesthesia plan, selecting and using equipment and monitors, performing safety checks, monitoring equipment, and recording anesthesia records via EMR.
- Ensures patient stability prior to transporting to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and informs personnel and supervising Physician Anesthesiologist of all pertinent information.
- Collaborates with supervisors and/or managers of other departments to analyze and resolve patient issues.
- Inserts intravenous/intra-arterial catheters.
- Selects appropriate anesthesia technique and administers analgesic and anesthetic agents, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids, or blood products.
- Manages emergency situations by assessing, stabilizing, and determining patient disposition, including airway management, emergency drug/fluid administration, and basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques.
- Performs pre-operative and post-operative evaluations, documenting thoroughly via EMR, reviewing/ordering laboratory/diagnostic studies, and conferring with the Clinical Director Anesthesiologist on any out-of-the-ordinary data.
- Develops and implements an anesthesia care plan, discussing it with the patient, surgeon, and supervising physician anesthesiologist, and documenting on the pre-anesthesia record.
- Maintains familiarity with regional anesthesia techniques, including medication dosage and maintenance.
- Evaluates patient’s response to anesthesia and surgery and takes appropriate corrective action during the post-anesthesia period.
- Plans and directs in-service educational and Divisional Orientation Programs.
- Presents in-services to other hospital personnel as requested.
- Participates in research and presents findings and in-services to department and other hospital personnel.
- Directs orientations and preceptorships for Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist (SRNA’s), CRNA’s and anesthesia technicians.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the goals of the department and institution.
