About The Position

This role involves supporting individuals in their recovery journey from substance use challenges. The Recovery Specialist will act as a role model, mentor, and advocate, utilizing their lived experience and professional skills to help individuals build healthier, more stable lives. The position is based at the Montgomery County Methadone Center and focuses on providing person-centered care and evidence-based practices to foster long-term wellness.

Requirements

  • Must self-identify as an individual with a serious mental illness who is currently or formerly a recipient of mental health services and/or substance use recovery services
  • Valid Pennsylvania Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals in mental health recovery
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to travel locally for community outreach and engagement activities
  • ACT 33/34 clearances, if required by program
  • Pennsylvania PATCH clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in medication-assisted treatment or substance use treatment settings
  • Knowledge of community resources within Montgomery County
  • Experience facilitating recovery groups or peer support services
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator for individuals in recovery
  • Share appropriate recovery experiences to foster authentic peer support relationships
  • Provide recovery support services, education, and advocacy
  • Assist individuals in identifying strengths and using personal assets to advance recovery goals
  • Support person-centered interventions and recovery planning
  • Connect individuals with community resources, natural supports, and mutual aid groups such as NA and AA
  • Provide relapse prevention education and recovery-focused guidance
  • Facilitate engagement in treatment and recovery services
  • Educate family members, staff, and participants on recovery-oriented practices
  • Complete service documentation in accordance with agency standards and timelines
  • Participate in community outreach activities and local program engagement efforts
