About The Position

Rome Health is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) to join our Substance Use Treatment team. This position provides patient-centered peer support services that emphasize recovery, hope, and wellness through the intentional use of lived experience. The CRPA works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary treatment team to engage individuals in treatment, support recovery goals, promote self-advocacy, and connect participants to community resources and recovery supports. Through a combination of personal recovery experience and professional training, the Peer Advocate plays a vital role in helping individuals increase engagement in treatment, strengthen commitment to recovery, and successfully navigate healthcare and support systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) required; OR Provisional Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA-P) with the ability to obtain full CRPA certification within New York State Certification Board requirements.
  • Lived experience with substance use recovery and the ability to use experiential knowledge to support individuals pursuing recovery goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the recovery community and recovery-oriented systems of care.
  • Working knowledge of substance use disorder treatment systems, recovery support services, and community resources.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective written communication and documentation skills.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to navigate Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Ability to engage clients using a variety of outreach and motivational strategies.
  • Knowledge of alcohol and other substance use disorders.
  • Understanding of Peer Advocate ethics, professional boundaries, confidentiality standards, and the Canon of Ethics.
  • Ability to identify participant strengths and support individualized recovery planning.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health challenges preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engage individuals who are considering entering treatment services.
  • Support and motivate participants to attend treatment, healthcare appointments, and recovery-related services.
  • Assist participants in developing and achieving individualized recovery goals and plans.
  • Facilitate non-clinical peer support groups and recovery-focused activities.
  • Model healthy coping strategies, self-care practices, and recovery-oriented behaviors.
  • Connect participants with community resources, social services, and recovery supports.
  • Assist individuals with applications for benefits and other supportive services.
  • Educate participants on multiple pathways and approaches to recovery.
  • Help participants identify personal strengths and build self-confidence.
  • Support participants in developing self-advocacy skills and navigating service systems.
  • Assist participants in tracking progress and practicing new recovery skills.
  • Accompany participants to medical appointments, court appearances, and other supportive services when appropriate.
  • Provide non-clinical crisis support, particularly during transitions following hospitalization, incarceration, or other significant life events.
  • Facilitate linkage to continuing care and recovery support services following discharge from treatment.
  • Collaborate closely with counselors, medical providers, case managers, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
