About The Position

The position is for a full-time clinician working in a hospital setting which includes inpatient and outpatient care for diverse populations from pediatric to adult. Candidates will be responsible for clinical evaluations and implementation of orthotic and prosthetic treatment plans. The applicant will be required to work closely with our providers clinically and will need to implement educational programs to teach other allied health providers about prosthetic and orthotic services. The candidate will have the opportunity to engage in clinical research and participate in department development and expansion efforts. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a developing hospital-based practice.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MSPO/MSOP from an NCOPE accredited O&P Curriculum after 2012) OR Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics (BSPO) or a post- Baccalaureate Certificate of Completion (if candidate graduated from an NCOPE accredited O&P Curriculum prior to 2012).
  • ABC certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics, in good standing.
  • At least 1 year of experience providing direct patient care in an orthotic and prosthetic facility, with demonstrated skills, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties in a patient care setting.
  • Excellent communication and team building / interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of orthopedic specific injuries and disease processes and associated orthotic / prosthetic interventions.
  • Familiarity with current treatment modalities, materials, and fabrication techniques.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients and families.
  • Experience with scoliosis treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating with providers in clinics to discuss prosthetic and orthotic needs and ordering practices
  • Evaluating patients to determine the most appropriate device design
  • Determining and providing HSS staff with appropriate L-codes for obtaining authorization or billing custom orthoses
  • Managing works in progress for custom devices to ensure timely treatment and billing
  • Fitting both prefabricated and custom orthoses to inpatients and outpatients
  • Timely documentation of care provided in EPIC
  • Obtaining patient signatures on all necessary paperwork for billing
  • Communicating with patients and families about appropriate care and use for devices provided
  • Providing initial prosthetic care and education for patients transitioning to a bone anchored prosthesis
  • Participating in managing inventory
  • Performing patient chart reviews to confirm medical necessity and other necessary documentation is accurate for billing
  • Training providers or HSS staff on P&O workflows as needed
