About The Position

In accordance with state and federal regulations, the Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and in other Pharmacy Department duties consistent with Company policies and procedures. The technician uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, the technician also assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers. The role models and delivers a distinctive customer experience.

Requirements

Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision and in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving issues, and answering questions.
Model customer service best practices, build relationships with valuable customers, and provide assistance until customer needs are satisfied.
Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policies, and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information accurately, fill prescriptions, retrieve and count medications, verify medicine, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company policies concerning errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
Follow the Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required.
Help customers locate over-the-counter products when possible.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and efficiently, and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
Apply asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, and damaged prescription drugs.
Assist with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with the local medical community through provider detailing and outreach to healthcare providers and community organizations.
Maintain the Pharmacy Department's supplies, cleanliness, and orderly appearance.
Comply with company policies and procedures, maintain respectful relationships with coworkers, and complete special assignments and other assigned tasks.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend training, complete requested PPLs, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
